RBS's top earner has the biggest salary on the Street

Ellen Alemany's stratospheric £1.8m annual wage is virtually unmatched in banking, with even the likes of Blankfein and Ackermann earning less in basic pay

The head of RBS’ American retail operations may take home less than senior investment bankers in total compensation after bonuses, but few can match her basic wage.

Excluding annual bonuses and share awards, Ellen Alemany earned more than Barclays' chief executive Bob Diamond, £250,000, and Deutsche Bank chief executive Josef Ackermann, £1.4m, combined in 2010.
