Lawyers challenging the Department of Government Efficiency have seized on President Trump’s Tuesday shout-out to Elon Musk in his congressional address as evidence that the administration is misleading judges about the tech mogul’s authority.
Trump referred to Musk as heading DOGE in his speech to a joint session of Congress. In doing so, the president appeared to contradict government lawyers defending DOGE who have characterized Musk’s role as merely advisory.
