Employers urge healthy living

A better diet and purposeful physical activity are the basics of staying fit and vigorous

The long hours, rich food and sedentary lifestyles of financial services careers do little to promote good health. But employers are urging staff to take better care of themselves. Vigorous workers in prime condition are better candidates for promotion, and the right kinds of food and the right kinds of exercise are crucial for handling stress.

Ian Marber, a nutritionist who operates under the pseudonym of the Food Doctor, says many people in the investment banking industry have an inferior diet. He provides advice on staff nutrition to financial services firms, including some of the larger US and German banks.
