The lockdown imposed in England could be in place until March, cabinet minister Michael Gove has said.

The latest restrictions to combat the surging new coronavirus variant – imposed as guidance on 4 January and due to be in place legally by the morning of 6 January – are set to be reviewed on 15 February. Gove said lockdown will not end at that time, with the government unable “to predict with certainty” that restrictions could be lifted by March.
