Troubled UK-based life assurance society Equitable Life has appointed Michael Arnold, senior partner of Hymans Robertson as independent actuary.

Equitable, and other life assurance societies, have recently been criticised for failing to have their actuarial calculations vetted by an independent party. Arnold has been appointed to reassure voting Equitable members that proposals on stabilising its financial affairs are as fair as possible.
