Equity research on the go

UK stockbroker Oriel Securities is following newspapers and other media by recording its equity research on to downloadable podcasts.

Clients can download 10 minute "sound bites" from Oriel's website on to their MP3 or MP4 player and update themselves on the latest equity analysis while on the train, tube or on the way to the pub. Nick Redfern, head of sales and trading and an Oriel partner, said the idea is to counter the fact that about 90% of research is ignored by buyside analysts and fund managers as it is "over-commoditised, over-sanitised, anonymous and poorly focused." He said: "These podcasts are pioneering a marriage between quality equity research and entertainment as the City of London becomes increasingly technologically literate." The first podcasts will feature a question and answer session between a television-style newsreader and Oriel analysts, discussing their findings. Oriel plans to podcast videos, debates and interviews later.
