Esma tells fund managers how they can sell

The European regulatory body publishes guidelines on how far fund managers must go to ensure investment products are suitable for the clients to whom they are sold

The European Securities and Markets Authority has increased the pressure on asset managers to ensure that investors are encouraged to invest in products suitable for their level of sophistication under new guidelines ahead of the introduction of Mifid.

The Markets in Financial Instruments Directive, or Mifid, requires asset managers to actively seek information about their clients in order to assess whether they are suitable to take on individual investment products.
