Essex to join London in ‘high’ tier of Covid-19 restrictions

People in the capital's commuter towns will also be stopped from mixing indoors with other households

Essex and Elmbridge in Surrey — both major sources of commuters to the City of London — will join the capital in getting additional coronavirus restrictions from this weekend, health secretary Matt Hancock told MPs.

Hancock added that the government was holding "ongoing" talks about providing areas in tier two, the "high" category, with extra financial support for businesses and workers. The minister also said that Greater Manchester could move to tier three, the highest category of restrictions.
