ETF trades increase by 70% year-on-year

The volume of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) has increased by 70% year on year from January 2002 to January 2003, according to statistics from the London Stock Exchange (LSE).

In January 2003 there were 5,821 ETF trades on the LSE, compared with 3,433 in January 2002. Barclays Global Investors' ETF vehicle iShares, tracking the FTSE 100, was at its most active since launch in April 2000 with 4,984 trades in January 2003.
