Inflows into exchange-traded funds, credit specialists and alternative portfolios have left traditional equity firms floundering in their wake, according to research by Morgan Stanley analysts.

The analysts, led by Bruce Hamilton and Huw van Steenis, have put together a league table of 60 of the world's largest asset managers, ranking them in terms of their annualised growth rate of assets under management at the end of June.
