EU dilutes quarterly reporting demands

European Union ministers will not force companies within the EU to report quarterly financial results. The UK and City of London financial institutions had strongly resisted the Commission proposals, known as the transparency directive.

Frits Bolkestein, the Internal Market Commissioner, had argued that out of around 7,000 companies listed on a regulated market in the EU, 2,000 already produced quarterly reports and that the practice was accepted in several countries.
