EU directive looms large

The operating and financial review may have been abolished but nearly all UK-listed companies will be required under EU law to publish an enhanced directors' report.

The accounts modernisation directive, which has been incorporated into UK law, requires companies to provide a balanced analysis of the development and performance of the business during the financial year and the position of the company at the end of the year. The directive's language is similar to that used in OFR legislation.
