A leading European benefits consultant has warned that the European Union's new anti-discrimination directive will increase the already heavy administrative burden on UK pension schemes,.

The directive, which prohibits direct or indirect discrimination based on religion or belief, disability and age or sexual orientation, is seen as creating another disincentive for companies to offer pension provision.
