EU joins German fund discrimination row

Fund manager groups involved in a dispute over discriminatory tax changes in Germany have welcomed an intervention by the European Commission.

Germany wants to introduce capital gains tax for investors in equity and mutual funds. At present there is no such tax but, under the new proposals, foreign funds will be forced to pay twice the capital gains tax of domestic-domiciled funds.
