The European Commission has asked Italy and Spain to change laws which restrict voting rights and investment in their energy sectors, in breach of EU rules.

They have two months to comply with the request or face court action. The Commission said it is concerned that certain provisions in Spanish and Italian laws constitute an unjustified restriction on the free movement of capital.
