Plans for new EU-wide rules on takeover bids suffered another setback Wednesday with the chances of an agreement now pushed back to the autumn and looking increasingly remote.

EU ambassadors ended a meeting on Wednesday deadlocked over the proposals and decided to refer them back to an EU competitiveness council meeting September 23.
