EU threatens Spain over shareholder rights

The European Commission will take Spain to court if it does not change domestic laws that discriminate against shareholders when companies issue new shares or bonds.

The European Union executive has formally asked the Spanish government to change national rules which prevent a listed company's existing shareholders from having a first option to buy new securities when they are offered by the company.
