EU to consult on conflicts of interest

The European Commission is launching a consultation on possible legislation to avoid conflicts of interest between investment banking and research.

The Commission set up a forum group consisting of market participants to come up with a set of recommendations. The group was set up in November 2002, shortly after an investigation by Eliot Spitzer, New York attorney general, into conflicts of interest on Wall Street.
