Euronext, the pan-European stock exchange, has confirmed that it has made an approach to the London Stock Exchange with a view to entering into preliminary discussions about a possible bid, as first reported by Financial News.

The Paris-based exchange said that there can be no assurance at this stage that any offer will be made.
