Euronext Lisbon chooses new head

João Eduardo Moura da Silva Freixa, the country manager and chief executive officer of Barclays Bank Portugal, has been nominated as chief executive officer of Euronext Lisbon, following the resignation of Manuel Alves Monteiro.

Freixa joined Barclays Bank in Portugal in 1985 as an assistant manager operations. He rose through the ranks and moved to London in 1996 as director of Iberia markets at Barclays de Zoete Wedd (BZW), the UK bank's former corporate finance and equity capital markets business. Freixa became director treasury for Europe and a member of the executive of the European retail banking group before returning to Portugal in 1997.
