Buyout activity in Europe has roughly halved so far in 2016, with senior executives pointing to “cracks” in the market.

European buyouts worth $12.03 billion have been completed in the year to February 17 - less than half the value in the same period of 2015, according to Dealogic. The number of deals has also fallen significantly, with 126 private equity sales and acquisitions so far this year, compared with 209 in the same period of 2015.
