In Europe a total of 14 fund managers are handling 117 listed exchange traded funds (ETFs), compared to seven managers and 114 ETFs in the US, according to research from Morgan Stanley's European equity research team.
The ETF market took off in the US in the 1990s but has only been developing in the past few years in Europe. Globally there are now 283 ETFs with 374 listings on 27 exchanges.
