European banks are making a fresh push to crack the US, the most lucrative market in the world for dealmaking ­— but they face an uphill battle.

EU lenders’ share of dealmaking on Wall Street has nearly halved over 10 years, which shows the challenge of trying to wrest fees from US banks that have a home advantage.
