European buyout firms are making waves in the US

However, investors want to be sure that large deals across the pond mean more than ‘just planting a flag’

When BC Partners co-chairman Raymond Svider moved to New York to establish the British firm’s presence in the US in 2008, he was told by peers that it was “unlucky timing”.

Conversely, he now believes that making the move just as the global financial crisis was taking hold was good timing as there was space to expand because many US firms were busy trying to sort out issues in their portfolios.
