EC toughens stance on Mifid

The European Commission moves to limit the amount of discretion member states will enjoy when implementing the next version of Mifid, according to a draft version of the rules

The European Commission is set to clamp down on regulatory arbitrage across the European Union by limiting the amount of discretion member states will enjoy when implementing the next version of Mifid, according to a draft version of the rules.

Europe's executive arm plans to introduce key elements of the Mifid II reforms as regulation rather than as a directive, thereby forcing member states to implement the new rules to the letter and further concentrating national rule-making power in Brussels.
