European corporates shun bond sector

Issuance slumps to half of second-quarter levels

There was little reason for corporate debt bankers to cheer in the third quarter with new deals in Europe few and far between, and the worst three months may be yet to come.

Primary issuance slumped to below €25bn ($31bn), barely half the €44.6bn of supply launched in the second quarter or the €47bn issued in the same period in 2003, according to Dealogic, the investment banking data provider.
