European hedge funds will escape worst of SEC red tape

European hedge fund managers have been spared the most extreme burden of US measures to regulate the industry by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

According to detailed proposals just published by the US regulator, European and other non-US hedge fund managers required to register with the SEC would be subject only to the regulatory provisions prohibiting fraud.
