European Parliament hits back at Geithner over OTC reforms

A letter sent to the US Treasury Secretary is the latest salvo in a transatlantic battle that has broken out between US and European regulators

The European Parliament has hit back at US attempts to influence the European regulatory agenda in a punchy letter sent to US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, in which the ruling body disputes the US interpretation of the G20 mandate to reform the global derivatives market.

The letter was issued by Werner Langen, a highly influential member of the European Parliament who is currently overseeing negotiations on the region's key derivatives reform, the European Market Infrastructure Regulation.
