European parliament seeks changes to share trading

The European parliament will press for changes this week to controversial new share trading rules, which MEPs believe will increase costs for investors, discourage off-exchange trading and drive business out of Europe.

The rules, which amend the 10-year-old investment services directive (ISD), were agreed by finance ministers last November against the wishes of the UK and four other member states.
