European parliament to confront commission policies

The European parliament's influential economic and monetary affairs committee will meet this week to set out policy objectives and quiz the European Commission on progress under the financial services action plan.

In its first full working session since the June elections, the new committee will question Gerrit Zalm, finance minister of the Netherlands, which holds the EU's six-month rotational presidency, on his plans for the remainder of the year.
