Changes to data fees at the Bolsas y Mercados Españoles, Spain's national stock market, have sparked a fierce backlash from Europe's largest exchange group and other trading venues.

BME has set a "special fee" on the operators of venues — including so-called multilateral trading facilities — that use information provided by the Spanish stock exchange to feed into how prices are formed on their own platforms.
