Ex-Abraaj employees still waiting for pay, a year after collapse

UAE companies must pay end-of-service benefits to foreign workers, but aren’t required to set aside money to fund those benefits

Nearly a year after Dubai-based private equity firm Abraaj Group filed for provisional liquidation, many of its former foreign workers — from deal makers to secretaries and butlers — are still waiting to get paid.

The ex-employees are still owed money that companies in the United Arab Emirates are supposed to pay expatriates at the end of their employment, according to people familiar with the matter.
