Ex-BHS owner Dominic Chappell sentenced to six years in prison for tax evasion

The judge noted Chappell's email, saying: "I am having to slum it in the Bahamas for the next three weeks. I know you will all feel my pain”.

Businessman Dominic Chappell, who bought department store chain BHS for £1 and presided over its collapse, has been jailed for six years for evading £583,739.20 in taxes due.

The former racing driver bought the retailer from Sir Philip Green for £1 on 11 March 2015, a year before its failure. He received £1.7m in success fees following the deal by his corporate vehicle Retail Acquisitions Limited and was also drawing a salary of £25,000 per month as a director of BHS.
