Simon Robertson, who resigned as president of Goldman Sachs Europe yesterday, today started his own business: Simon Robertson Associates, a mergers and acquisitions boutique.

One banking source close to Goldman Sachs said: "Simon has stepped back from the business over the last year because it has less to do with his area of expertise."
