Change Capital Partners, a private equity group set up by former Marks & Spencer chairman Luc Vandevelde, has been granted exclusive bidding rights in the auction for fashion retail chain Republic.

A source close to the negotiations confirmed that Change Capital has beaten off competition from other interested private equity buyers, including HgCapital and Graphite Capital, with a bid of approximately £100m (€147m).
