Exchanges face deadline on plans for tech glitches

Proposals due in 60 days on how to handle problems that could roil markets

US stock and options exchanges have 60 days to deliver plans to better manage major technology problems, following a meeting of regulators and exchange executives Thursday in response to a recent spate of market-rattling breakdowns.

The meeting at the Washington headquarters of the Securities and Exchange Commission highlighted regulators' increasing concerns that markets are vulnerable to glitches in the computer systems that handle the vast majority of trades.
