The Confederation of British Industry called on the government to extend loan and grant schemes for businesses who have struggled during the Covid-19 pandemic and ensuing nationwide lockdown.

The CBI’s call comes as the government begins to ease restrictions following a 20.4% fall in GDP in April — the biggest since records began over 50 years ago.
