EY chief executive Carmine Di Sibio is to retire following the failure of his plan to split the firm into separate consulting and audit businesses.

Di Sibio was the brains behind EY’s attempted break-up — codenamed Project Everest — which it cancelled in April after opposition from senior US audit partners.
