Bricks-and-mortar retail is going out of fashion, and that is a problem for private equity.

In recent years, the private equity industry has binged on portfolios of shopping malls. As the entire retail landscape shifts because of economic malaise and a shift to ecommerce, many mall owners may find they are in similar trouble to their tenants.
