FCA chair calls for crackdown on shadow banks

Regulator says focus must shift to 'obscure' problem areas

Financial Conduct Authority chair Ashley Alder said there has been too much focus on public markets as regulators look to bring more shadow banking activity into the regulatory perimeter.

“I do think that the debate should shift from an over-concentration on what are effectively public market actors to areas in private markets that are obscure but where we have seen problems,” he told a Managed Fund Association conference in Paris.
