FCA kicks off de-banking probe after Farage saga

The City watchdog will begin sending letters to major lenders to probe so-called de-banking across the sector on 9 August.

Banks will be told to disclose how many accounts they have shut or suspended, and why they have done so, as regulators and politicians look to establish how widespread the practice is after a row erupted when Coutts closed ex-UKIP leader Nigel Farage's accounts.
