FCA overhauls benchmark rules for asset managers

Market regulator pushes on with new rules forcing asset managers to explain their choice of benchmark to investors

The Financial Conduct Authority is pressing on with plans to overhaul the way asset managers set benchmarks for their funds, despite protests from the industry.

The City watchdog has been working on new rules for benchmarks — market indices against which funds’ performance is compared — since its landmark 2017 review of the UK’s £7.7tn fund management sector.
