FCA to launch hub for asset management startups

UK regulator wants to help foster competition by helping new entrants through the authorisation process and beyond

The UK's financial markets watchdog is setting up a hub to help new entrants to the asset management industry, as part of its drive to increase competition in the sector.

Megan Butler, executive director of supervision for investment, wholesale and specialist at the Financial Conduct Authority, said today that "red tape tends to protect incumbents from competition by putting off new entrants to the market".
