The head of the UK’s financial watchdog has denied he was pressured by government ministers to warn City banks against needlessly shifting business out of London ahead of Brexit.

Speaking before a parliamentary committee on December 3, Andrew Bailey said: “I know we are accused of being political, but I don’t think we are... we wrote those [letters] off our own initiative.”
