Felix Rohatyn: the return of Lazard's prodigal son

Financial News takes a look at the career of 81-year old Felix Rohatyn, the man widely credited with saving New York City from bankruptcy in the 1970s, who this week returned to work at Lazard, the bank he first joined over 60 years ago.

Rohatyn is still perhaps best known as the banker whose strategic advice saved New York City from bankruptcy in the mid-1970s. Hired to advise New York state governor Hugh Carey, Rohatyn solved the city's budget crisis by landing concessions from a wide array of parties: taxes increased, the state contributed some money, the subway toll was doubled, the city's workforce trimmed, and the local City University started charging tuition.
