The editor of Financial News has issued a rallying call to work together to improve diversity in the sector, and not just vilify firms that haven't done more.
Speaking at a dinner to mark FN's annual list of Europe's top female financiers, Shruti Tripathi Chopra said: "We’ve been doing this list for 17 years and honestly, I can’t wait to stop doing it. I want us to reach a stage where being a senior woman in finance is just not a big deal."
FN has won a number of recent awards for its reporting on diversity issues.
Tripathi Chopra said this was down to the "authenticity" of its coverage.
"At FN we endeavour to be the voice of change for the industry," she said at the event at The News Building, which was sponsored by Citi. "We try to present a true picture of diversity issues instead of just vilifying the sector."
"I love publishing honest accounts from women who made it — they normalise, for example, that if you want to balance a demanding job and raising kids, then don’t feel guilty about spending money on childcare.
"You have worked really hard to be able to afford it, and you shouldn’t set yourself up for failure and have unrealistic expectations of doing everything, being everything to everyone all at once."

Baroness Helena Morrissey, who was the guest speaker at the event, told the gathering: "Gender equality doesn’t mean just having a few more women at the top. It is great to be in the top 100 but we need 100,000, no, millions of women to have choices, to fulfil their career potential."
In 2024, FN intends to build on our coverage of the City's most influential women, after debuting a new list of the top minds in digital assets earlier this year.
