Fintech firms plead for Bank of England funding to help them lend to small businesses

Some non-bank lenders have been authorised under a government funding scheme, but challenges remain for smaller firms

Lobby group Innovate Finance has written to Chancellor Rishi Sunak urging him to use fintech firms to help distribute the Treasury’s emergency loans to businesses.

Innovate Finance, which has the weight of some of the sector’s biggest names behind it, including the chief executives of Funding Circle and MarketFinance, is calling for fintech lenders to be given access to cheap funding through the Bank of England.
