The first UK Corporate Responsibility Index, launched by campaign group Business in the Community (BITC), has attracted 122 companies.

BITC, which had only expected around 70 companies to join based on the number in its Environment Index, was pleased with the response and said that a further 15 firms have pledged to join next year. Participants in the new index include 53 FTSE 100 companies and 22 non-FTSE firms that are members of BITC.
