Credit Suisse has hired the ex-head of investment banking at Dresdner Bank as chief executive of its European business, wresting him away from Winterthur, its former insurance arm.

The Swiss banking group has named Leonhard Fischer, the former head of Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, now known as Dresdner Kleinwort, as chief executive of Europe, Middle East and Africa.
