France cuts capital gains tax on investment in start-ups

Investors in French start-ups are to be fully exempt from capital gains tax from next week, as part of the 2004 budget currently undergoing parliamentary ratification.

The exemption is one of President Jacques Chirac's campaign pledges, made before his re-election in May 2002, and was welcomed by industry representatives.
